Brief:
To create a headwear range using a print and colour story for the New Era Trucker A-frame, 9fifty and apparel that conveys the heat and intensity of summer basketball, highlighting the start of the NBA season. With a focus on coastal NBA teams.
Inspiration
After researching NBA coastal teams I took inspiration from the surroundings often found around basketball courts in these areas, such as palm trees and how we could layer and create depth in a print. Looking at basketball courts during different times of the day, I was inspired me to create a colour story of dawn, dusk & night. A unique colour story for 1 team using the time of day and inspiration from their state to create a colour selection. I also took inspiration from the patterns and bold colours used and the texture of a basketball itself.
Colour Story 1: Dawn
The first colour story is inspired by the time dawn, and the lights and hues found when looking at the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco home of the Golden State Warriors.
Colour Story 2: Dusk
The second colour story is the time dusk, using the colours found when looking at sunset on Miami Beach, home to the team Miami Heat. I also looked into other inspiration for colour from signs and other sporting teams home to Miami.
The final colour story is inspired by Los Angeles at night, home to the team Los Angeles Lakers. The inspiration comes from seeing locations such as Santa Monica beach and icons such as the city/Hollywood sign at night.
